LOCATION: Northwest Arctic, Alaska

Kuna Engineering provided comprehensive engineering and survey services for a major expansion project involving a 66-bed Construction Contractor Camp. The project included the disassembly, relocation, and reinstallation of existing modular units onto a new foundation at an alternate site, complete with updated utilities.

Kuna’s scope encompassed:

  • Surveying and Documentation: Conducted detailed surveys of the existing installation and developed multiple drawing packages. These packages supported building permits, utility alteration approvals, and contractor bidding processes.
  • Project Management: Delivered critical schedule items on or ahead of schedule, ensuring that the camp could be relocated and operational within six months of the project’s commencement. Despite some weather-related delays, the project was completed on time, and the camp was occupied within the six-month target.
  • Architectural Services: Performed a thorough code assessment and managed several fire marshal submittals to ensure compliance with safety regulations.
  • Civil Engineering: Designed a new gravel pad, developed vehicle access points, and established effective traffic patterns. This design facilitated proper site drainage and access for the camp and its auxiliary office and utility buildings.
  • Structural Engineering: Collaborated with the construction team to create a foundation capable of being installed in winter conditions and adjusted as needed during the thawing of the ground.
  • Mechanical Engineering: Designed interconnecting piping systems to expand the existing potable water and wastewater treatment facilities to accommodate the camp expansion.
  • Electrical Engineering: Developed a new electrical distribution system and standby power generation, integrating with the existing medium voltage distribution system in the area.

Kuna Engineering’s multidisciplinary approach ensured that the camp expansion and relocation were completed efficiently, meeting all project requirements while adhering to budgetary constraints.
