Project Details

CLIENT: Cook Inlet Tribal Council
LOCATION: Eklutna Native Lands

Kuna performed the complete mechanical and electrical system designs for a design-build project that created a residential rehabilitation clinic for 16 patients. The project included facilities such as a commercial kitchen and dormitory spaces. Throughout the design process, Kuna worked closely with the architect and contractor to ensure the building systems seamlessly complemented numerous architectural features, including an atrium, clerestory dining area, and a fireplace.

On the mechanical engineering side, Kuna implemented several design innovations that resulted in significant cost savings. This included utilizing a single storage tank to meet both potable water and fire protection system needs, as well as coordinating the tank installation with foundation excavations. Kuna also incorporated a variable ventilation control strategy to enhance comfort for patients while reducing overall energy consumption.

For the electrical engineering portion, Kuna provided design solutions that integrated critical building systems such as access control, room temperature controls, and ventilation controls, ensuring seamless functionality and efficient operation.

Kuna also played a key role in commissioning the building systems, working closely with both the mechanical and electrical system contractors to verify that all systems operated as intended. This collaborative approach ensured the successful implementation of the building’s control systems.
