Native Village of Shungnak Transportation Program Assistance

Project Details

CLIENT: Native Village of Shungnak
LOCATION: Shungnak, Alaska

Kuna has maintained a positive working relationship with the Native Village of Shungnak for more than 20 years. We have coordinated multiple projects that resulted in successful planning and construction activities. One of the larger projects, the recent Shungnak Landfill Access Road is an example of one of our successes in design and permitting. Because of our efforts and strong communication skills, the community requested Kuna to aid in projects involving the location of a new sand and gravel pit, and a large architectural design project which is ongoing.

The Tribe has had multiple changes of staff and we’ve been successful in working with the tribe during their challenging times and have continued to build a strong foundation where Trust is key. Kuna has assisted the Tribe with obtaining permits from ADEC, USACE, the NAB, FAA, and other agencies that require special permits to construct new infrastructure.

Kuna has provided Technical Assistance with the Tribal Transportation Program, preparing and submitting quarterly reports and drawdown requests.  We have developed their LRTPs and TTSPs and assist with coordination between the Tribe and BIA.

Our combined efforts have inspired the community to expand and improve accessibility to critical resources that would not be possible without a strong working relationship.
